About our Logo

  • The ARQtist Designer

Our logo was designed by former ARQtist Bee Parisi in 2024. Bee created a simplified version of the iconic ARQ Barn from the angle of the first spaces that were rented to artists back in 1998, the Metal Shops. The logo is reflective of her unique style merging digital art layers and physical wood carving.

The colors were chosen as stylized versions of colors found around the property. Brick Red - Sunflower Yellow - Robins Egg Blue - Growing Green.

The Sunflower variation (Used for our legal business Inherited Dreams LLC) is a nod to the community-tended garden just outside the main door which once grew a 16 foot sunflower that inspired ARQtist irownworker Durand Van Doren to build the “Sunflower Throne”, currently a beloved fixture at the Ithaca Children’s Garden.

Bee pursued her woodcarving craft in the Milkweed Studio in 2020.

  • The Font

If you’ve been a part of ARQ or CRAQ at any point between 1998-2023, there might be something familiar about the slash of our “A” or the swoop of the “S”. Drawing from handwritten documents from our founder, Bee Parisi recreated a digital font of David Van Nostrand’s handwriting.

After his unexpected death in 2023, we actively work to recognize his presence in all the work, dreamings, and new pursuits at ARQ. This is one way we’re keeping his pen strokes on all our big decisions.

Note: David “might’ve” hated having his handwriting preserved digitally - he died without an email address or computer - but we think it’s pretty cool.

  • The Structure

The ARQ Barn is only one of six structures on the property that have housed various artistic, creative, and craft-driven pursuits over the last quarter century. Parisi simplified the design of our iconic main structure by limiting the number of windows and doors, but the second and third floor “doors to nowhere” that hearken to our history as an agricultural structure.

The Barn was completed in 1954 by the Carman Family, as a state-of-the-art farm that once housed 80,000 Leghorn White egg-producing chickens.

This angle of the barn showcases 3 ½ floors of studios and workspaces that have been finished over the last 20 years.

Our logo is available for download exclusively for ARQtists and community collaborators who choose to include ARQ branding in their own artistic pursuits while living or working at ARQ.
